Both of her children had just started elementary school so we were exposed to a new batch of germs. Naturally this week my wife and I are down with raging colds. The enforced inactivity gave me a chance to look at some long forgotten pictures from my India shoebox. For two years during the latter part of 1986 through mid 1988 I was a visiting Fulbright professor at the University of Delhi and a part time consultant to the Indian Government. Consulting activities largely consisted of observing Indian attempts to modernize the technology industry, making suggestions, and giving speeches to technocrats. I don't know how well our outreach efforts succeeded. All I can tell you is that I am on a first name basis with my computer Help Desk agent working out of Bangalore, India. My leisure activity simply consisted of walking around and snapping pictures. My top end SLR failed within a few months of arrival because of heat and monsoon humidity so most of the pics were snapped with a very reliable Rollei 35SE on Fujicolor film. My wife painted beautiful pictures. This was our first visit to India and it was a revelation to our western eyes. Scenes of indescribable beauty intermixed with scenes of indescribable poverty. My wife, the artist, was blown away by the colors. Here is the first batch of Indian street photos taken within a few blocks of our home in New Delhi. Bear in mind that these were all taken nearly a quarter of a century ago so conditions may be different today. More pics later. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/Street+kids.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/Califlower+vendor.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/Fruit+vendor.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/Nathu_s+sweets.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/Nathu_s+sweets+2.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Larry+Z/Soccer.jpg.html Larry Z
