When I first saw the Sinar-p in 1970 I knew I had to get one. It was
a bit out of reach at first, but it wasn't too long until I was fully
in the Sinar system. You can use calculators to determine ultimate
dof with appropriate circles of confusion very easily with the p, but
the direct way of setting tilts and swings with that camera made all
film plane/lens/object geometry clearly understandable and accessible
in the least time possible. And it had a very practical and versatile
dof scale which you could customize.

Other manufacturers later had similar or somewhat improved models,
but the p was still a watershed product in making Scheimflug logical
and easy.

Live view on full frame digitals is the first step in making tilts
reasonably easy to use on 35mm sized cameras. Next step is to make an
articulated rear screen.
