I have visited the Cosina and Leica (and Zeiss at Oberkochen and the old Wild, now Leica Microsystems at Heerbrugg) factories and never saw any elves. The only surprise I got in all my visits to optical factories was when I went to the main Nikon plant in Nishi Ooi and I realised that much of the best of their photo gear is made in a space not much larger than a suburban house block.
