I decided the best value for the money was a used Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 which I purchased lightly used for $420 off ebay. Took me some time to find one offered by a photo hobbyist who kept it in immaculate condition. For about $1400 the Scan Elite 5400 II is also real nice. The only difference between the two models is the scan time with the former being slow. The scan elites have a manual focusing adjustment for film which may have some curl and they use an adjustable cold light source which is real nice for B&W negs. Unfortunately I had to purchase a new Silverfast licence since I could never get the hang of Vuescan for B&W. Here is a link to the few negs I have scanned so far, only two rolls since purchase a few weeks ago. http://tiny.cc/ung1q the first four upt to my daughters in the garden are triX in D23 1:3 scanned with the 5400 At 02:32 PM 6/4/2010, you wrote: >Coolscans seem pretty hard to find these days. > >Alternatives? > >I tried flatbed scanners but have been disappointed with all results I've >seen so far. > >Anyone use the Braun Slide Scan 4000? > >I've love some samples files of scanned slides or B&W, if you have any. > >Thanks >Andrew >NO ARCHIVE > >_______________________________________________ >Leica Users Group. >See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information
