Reportedly design overseen by an ex-Panasonic employee (now Solms) who was part of the Leica Camera/ Panasonic connection. He is a Leica screw mount enthusiast. Being objective then, by my measurements the body is 11mm narrower than my Leica IIIc, 2mm thinner, and 10mm shorter. That might be a more meaningful reference. I woudn't buy or carry one in preference to an M either but they do have some unique qualities. Back to subjectively again, for me, it is much prettier in the metal than in illustrations and in a similar way to the grey M9. YSAMV Your Subjective Assessment May Vary ;-) Cheers Geoff http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman On 11 April 2010 10:18, George Lottermoser <imagist3 at mac.com> wrote: > Hi Geoff, > for me it's a little smaller (rather than a lot). > (obviously a very subjective opinion). > > ;~) > > Regards, > George Lottermoser > george at imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com > http://www.imagist.com/blog > http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist > > On Apr 10, 2010, at 5:00 PM, Geoff Hopkinson wrote: > > George naturally I agree that the X1 is very different to an M. >> On size it really is a lot smaller in the hand, especially since someone >> at >> Solms chopped the viewfinder off the top ;-) >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/hoppyman/2/Family+portrait.jpg.html >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/hoppyman/2/S2X1.jpg.html >> http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/hoppyman/2/JX1.jpg.html >> Cheers >> Geoff >> http://www.pbase.com/hoppyman >> >> >> On 11 April 2010 03:30, George Lottermoser <imagist3 at mac.com> wrote: >> >> Assuming: >>> one has M lenses >>> and >>> one has $2K >>> why would one choose an X1? >>> >>> when one can pickup a used M8 >>> for essentially the same money. >>> >>> They are, for all practical purposes, the same size: >>> 60 x 124 x 32 mm (2.4 x 4.9 x 1.3 in) = X1 (no viewfinder, no lens >>> interchangeability) >>> 80 x 139 x 37 mm (3.1 x 5.5 x 1.5 in) = M8 (viewfinder, range finder, >>> lens >>> interchangeability) >>> The M8/8.2/9 = the smallest precision still camera available. >>> >>> (obviously if one does not already own M lenses - the X1 may be a >>> rational >>> choice) >>> >>> I can also understand the excitement over the Oly and Pany offerings >>> at less than half the money and offering lens interchangeability. >>> >>> Additional personal ergonomic disclaimer: >>> I don't want a camera in my pocket. >>> I want my camera in my hand >>> (or on a strap on my shoulder) >>> >>> Regards, >>> George Lottermoser >>> george at imagist.com >>> http://www.imagist.com >>> http://www.imagist.com/blog >>> http://www.linkedin.com/in/imagist >>> >>> On Apr 9, 2010, at 11:08 PM, Mark Rabiner wrote: >>> >>> Leica X1 >>> >>>> >>>>> >>>> >>>> Me too! >>>> >>>> >>>> [Rabs] >>>> Mark William Rabiner >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>> _______________________________________________ >>>> Leica Users Group. >>>> See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >>>> >>>> >>> >>> _______________________________________________ >>> Leica Users Group. >>> See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >>> >>> >> _______________________________________________ >> Leica Users Group. >> See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >> > > > _______________________________________________ > Leica Users Group. > See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information >
