Ask that goofy 16-year-old kid who was practicing his freedom of speech over the PA system in a WalMart. I think he's in the slammer today. I hope he got his own cell. On of my family members is constantly fuming that she isn't allowed to use the N-word. She has no reason to use it, but wants to because she isn't allowed to. I don't get her point. What's the practical value? So, she wants to walk down the street calling African Americans the n-word because of her protected right of freedom of speech. She has never had the urge to walk down the street calling unattractive people goblins or calling overweight people fat tubs of s**t, but that N-word really has her feeling her 1st amendment rights being trampled. Life is too short to feel that every nuance of the 1st amendment must be exercised without constraint. Winogrand's book is named "The Man in the Crowd", not because his activities were drawing a crowd, but because he was among those in the crowd, but taking pictures. He did raise some eyebrows, and that dude with the bandage on his already-punched nose seemed downright displeased. Garry might not be able to pull it off were he alive today, at least not without getting some physical abuse. Fully exercising your own right can make others feel that their rights are being violated. If "It's the bottom line" implies that freedom of speech has no restrictions, it goes beyond not yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. Having a camera in hand doesn't impart full immunity. There, now I've made the MOST unconscionable statement you have ever read.
