I initially tried using a 40mm optical finder with my 20mm lens, but of course then you do not see where the camera is focusing, and since I shoot a lot at f1.7 this matters to me. So I bought the EVF, and while it is not perfect, it certainly does the job. One thing that I find annoying with the EVF is that it when it is turned on it also functions as the playback screen. In other words, you can use either the EVF or the LCD but not both. What I would like is to use the EVF for taking the picture but the LCD for the instant review afterwards. I hope a future firmware upgrade will make this possible.
