I'm a Yanqui and I don't get it, either.

I suspect our chosen Gods have much more important issues on their(?) 
plate(s).

I do think New Orleans got kicked in the stomach by Hurricane Katrina and 
could use a happy outcome but they should win it by themselves.  All the 
better.
