Bob,

London is a wonderful city - but, on average, not a place to find good
British food.

Country pubs tend to be the best bet for a good meal at reasonable
prices. Best of all are generally pubs that are not part of a
brewery/gastronmic chain and are not too close to airports.

I pity the staff at a lot of places in London, slave-labour wage rates,
long hours and a cost of living that is more than astronomical. Even
though they do get CR training, it must be very hard to even try staying
polite and smiling.

When we visit London, we tend to stay in hotels in smaller towns well
out of the city and take advantage of the superb (/mostly/) public
transport system to get into town, it's often cheaper, better and a lot
more friendly.

Cheers
Douglas
