I'm betting the MTV graphs and whatever else specs in the Leica Apo-Telyt-R
280 mm are no worse than the Nikors.
It's just hard for people to believe that a lens that old could compete
against a lens made currently by a top company. Even if the company is less
top than the one making the older lens.
If I had to get some shots of birds on a regular basis or big project I'd
get a nikon lens as I don't have any Leica bodies.
I'd get the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G IF-ED or the
AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED
AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR
AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR
These are gorgeous lenses made with a half dozen technologies not around
when the Telyt came out decades ago.
A century in lens years.
And Ed and VR singed their initials to them. They must think so to.
IF does not me if.
It means internal focusing.
I LOVE THAT!
But not as much as I'd love a lens which had VR.
Voice Recognition
A MUST for any lens in this day and age.
"GET BIRD IN FOCAS"
A lens with Vertical Rescue.
"NOT THAT BIRD THE OTHER ONE".

A lens with Ice Fog reduction
Intrinsically Funny
In Flames

I think there's a good chance the Leica is better.
They are just using glass which nikon can't justify at the price points they
hope to sell their lenses for.
Despite all the cutting edge technology now.
What's needed are the finest glasses inside your lens.

I do have a nikon 300 I got for 150 bucks
Its not a
AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4D IF-ED
But a NIKKOR 300mm f/4
No D
No AF-S
No IF or ED

No AF of any kind I have to turn the thing just like a Leica .

But its got a tripod thing on it. The only lens I have which has one.
LOVE THAT!
And its 150 bucks and seems to be an amazing performer.
So far when I'm using it it becomes a 450 with the 1.5 crop circle factor
and I had no idea what extreme tele stuff could do!
