I'm using Image Print with the 4800 and would love to be able to do 
without it.  It is very expensive.  The big advantage is all of the 
paper profiles and the Phat black that makes it possible to print on 
glossy and matte without changing inks.  I'm hoping newer printers 
will have that built in.
