I stopped reading fans' views on motorsport many years ago because they are so wide of the mark it is laughable, but trying to put anybody right is quite impossible, since they are -so- convinced of their ridiculous version. I was speculating that there -will- be people who say that in order to make the M9 work without IR filters on the lenses there was an unacceptable compromise made, and they prefer the M8. Probably. :-) I tried to order a M9 on Wednesday, but so far no luck, even on a delivery date. I reason to myself that it is cheaper than a Canon 1Ds Mk3, and following the teething problems with the M8 Leica would not release the M9 without exhaustive prototyping... Frank, no it ain't! The pixel pitch is identical as you say. I guess on theoretical resolution over the same area of the sensor what you say is true. The red sensitivity in the bayer thingie is not and the IR sensitivity is most decidedly not. Completely new firmware too. I have some jpegs right from camera that dramatically demonstrate the reproduction of synthetic black fabrics, black plastic and metal etc without UV/IR and at 800 ISO. On early results the vignetting appears to be effectively dealt with by the new micro lens arrangements too. Anecdotally there appear to be gains in dynamic range, but we will need some production cameras out there in expert hands before anything definitive emerges there. The first production M9 to be sold to Australian hands that I know of is delivered tomorrow. I look forward to hearing from the lucky owner. 2009/9/11 Frank Dernie <Frank.Dernie at btinternet.com> > Also, since the M9 sensor is a development of the M8 sensor with identical > pixel pitch, a 1.33 central crop from a M9 file should be pretty well a M8 > file.
