I had a Gateway before the Dell, but got disenchanted with them when I  
found that their memory upgrade to 1gb was $750 (and they seemed to be  
the only one with memory chips that were compatible). The fellow who  
drove to the house to do all of the motherboard replacements was  
completely smitten with the knowledge that he had steady work. He's a  
local guy contracted by Dell, and he told me that most of his day is  
spent replacing Dell motherboards. I guess that it is the luck of the  
draw on these things.
