I did run across an understandable article about the relationship of sensor
size to print quality (under the heading, "resolution, from the lens to the
paper"):

It looks like the full-frame sensor may an advantage with large full-frame
prints, or with some moderate cropping.  The main advantage seems to be in
lower noise, especially for higher contrast images.  No revelations there,
but a non-technical explanation of the reasons.
