Many of course. After all, Russia occupied several neighboring  
countries, so Latvians, Poles etc. had even more of a reason to flee.  
One thing to be conscripted into the army of your own country, another  
into the one of a hostile, occupying state.

My father's story is a bit of the opposite, but of course it was also  
a different war. In 1942, when he was 17, he volunteered to join the  
Red Army and was accepted despite being too young (he may have lied  
about his age, but I am not sure). He fought against the Germans for  
the next 3 years and ended the war in May 1945 as an officer  
commanding a small unit holding the town of Bernau, 35 km from Berlin.  
For a young Jewish man in those years, this was not a bad fate at all.
