Everyone's personal taste and preferences is different.....

The reason the TLR worked without automation is that you always focused
through "the" lens at full aperture.  No iris automation required.

Iris automation, linkage, or otherwise called, is a real convenience thing
and allows for full aperture focusing and more concentration on the subject
and image.
Having to turn a ring to make the aperture the required one for proper
exposure is a real PITA.
