The reason the TLR worked without automation is that you always focused through "the" lens at full aperture. No iris automation required. Iris automation, linkage, or otherwise called, is a real convenience thing and allows for full aperture focusing and more concentration on the subject and image. Having to turn a ring to make the aperture the required one for proper exposure is a real PITA. Frank Filippone red735i at earthlink.net
