Bruce,

The Spaniards weere of course Spanish explorers reaching the the Eastern 
coast
of Southern America and the Galapagos.

Wikipedia gives:

"Blue-footed Boobies are distributed among the continental coasts of the 
eastern
Pacific Ocean to the Galapagos Islands and California."
