Nathan, I'm sure that you will enjoy the dramatic perspectives the 18 brings
for you. Actually it looks like it has done pretty well in this case (as has
the sensor) with the sun at the edge of the frame.
Let us know your experience with the coding. Mine is coded as the WATE as
you know. Before Mark gets cross with me, WATE means the Leica 16-18-21.
I don't know what you mean about a problem fitting the UV/IR and hood
together. My lens has a B+W 58mm 486 filter and the hood fits neatly over it
with no problem at all (on the exernal bayonet). As you know Leica don't
make a 58 UV/IR.
My Zeiss 18 with the B+W filter (and hood). No vignette correction post
processing. The camera firmware is treating it like the WATE at 18mm.

You can see from the EXIF that the camera has recorded 18mm with maximum
aperture of f/4. The WATE coding defaults to 18mm if you don't make a
selection in the menu for it.
What setup are you using? The Zeiss hood is pretty tiny of course. Being a
wide angle flower design it really only offers any shading at the top and
bottom edges. You have to give Leica credit for a much more efficient design
on the new Super Elmar. That one needs a specialised UV/IR though.
