Rabbit skin glue to wood - yes.
But to glass - never heard of that before.

Sounds like someone wanted to
prevent cracking of the paint
by gluing the canvas to a substrate
which would not expand or contract.
Given the brittle nature of glass;
it seems like a poor choice.
