Lightroom does the same, now, I think and Photoshop CS3 does it with the Adjustment tools now, automatically creating adjustment layers. They really are exploiting the video cards' power these days (and a good thing). The design of Graphical User Interfaces is the most difficult part of most computer products although you'd never know it from what is being taught in colleges/universities these days. Some of the finest examples of great design are out in the iPhone segment where small screen real estate and the touch interface require designers to really think about what they are making and how it should work. Cameras suffer the same problem and one only has to use a Canon compared to the Leica DMR to know the difference. I loved the R8 as a film camera and the DMR got the human factors right for digital. Unfortunately in the features race the camera designers want you to adjust literally every little feature and there are only so many buttons. Canon as way too many for this guy. If I haven't shot with the 1Ds in a week I have to retrain! :-) I hope the new Leica user experience will be elegant. My feeling is that the European design ethic is vastly superior to the Japanese version of same. Not that I'll ever be able to do more than hold one of the new Leica cameras (and probably not even that), nevertheless I am hopeful they'll give someone at Nikon and Canon a reason to work harder.
