Just cadged friends into agreeing to do the Chez Sophie New Year's Eve dinner after our barber shop show this evening. It may be the best restaurant between New York City and Montreal. Here's the menu: Chef Paul has set the menu for New Year's Eve (Paul being Paul, there will probably be some minor tweaks prior to the final printing. The appetizer choices will include pork belly sweet braised with cider, bourbon and brown sugar then deep fried; seared foie gras and scallop; shrimp and potato en cocotte Basquaise with quail egg; oysters on the halfshell. The entrees will be lobster l'Americaine; tournedos or filet mignon with two sauces, truffled red wine and Bearnaise; veal medallions with morels, Madeira and herbs; or duck ? la bergamot. The salad will be watercress, endive, pomegranate seeds and walnuts in a walnut oil vinaigrette.
