It most likely is a Metz thing as Mehrdad astutely pointed out. I  
don't know if all of their flashes have it but my 54MZ-4 does.  
However in Leica's defense, the screw down wheel locks it in pretty  
tight. Plus it's less likely to be bumped off due to it's very low  
profile.
