I think it's Stephen Gandy that says to improve your camera's IQ, 
turn OFF the AF :-)

That's why the E-3 is pretty good in that regard (I know the Nikon 
and Canon's big boys are even better), you can manual focus fine with 
it, which is often what I do. AF to get close to what I want, and 
manual focus to adjust for any incorrectness.
