I find that for me, it's mostly psychological, having to do with my
notion of people's personal space, and to what extent I expect to be
willing and able to intrude. If I'm wandering about among strangers, I
usually take something which corresponds to the field of view of a 50mm
lens on 35mm film. If I expect to be among people I know, or to whom I
expect to be introduced, I'm more likely to take something of
35mm-on-35mm width.

Of course... since I most often spend time indoors or in dimmish
twilight, I hate to be stuck with a lens slower than f/1.4. So
practicality dictates that I now use my 35/1.4 ASPH for almost
everything, now that my body of choice is the M8.
