It's possible that Plux-X doesn't stain. There's not a lot of info on Plus-X and PMK. I don't use Plus-X much anymore, but I always liked the tonal range for portraits and the long toe. I ordered IR film from Freestyle and added a few rolls of Arista EDU Premium 100. It's rumored to be Plus-X although I doubt it. I can't see Kodak doing that. OTOH, times are changing and old rules may not apply. I thought I'd try a few rolls of AEP and see how it shapes up. PMK should be one indicator, since different films react very differently. Assuming normal development for PMK was followed (heavy agitation, alkali fix, at least 20 min running water wash) there are some methods to boost the stain. First make sure you place the negs into the used developer for about 2 minutes agitating every 30 seconds. While this is a normal part of the process I was surprised at how much additional stain appeared compared to when I didn't do this. Second, increase agitation simulating a JOBO. Third, let the mixed developer stand for an hour before use. Fourth, and more radical method is to used an aged stock solution "A" along with your normal "A" stock. Gordon Hutchings mentioned he ages his "A" stock 2 years and uses it to replenish his current in use "A" stock so that it is always somewhat aged.
