Alan,

I use many Leica LTM lenses on my M8 going back to those made in the
30's. However none are wider then 35mm so I don't worry about coding.
When used on the M8 I do use a UV/IR filter. Most of the very old
lenses use an A36 push on filter. I have a Leitz push on A36 adapter
that uses the special Summitar filter. I made a special Summitar
filter that uses the filter glass from a 39mm UV/IR filter mounted in
an old Summitar filter frame. Other then that special case there are
UV/IR filters available from B+W or Heliopan for all sizes. I only
have two lenses that are not made by Leica, a 35mm Jupiter 12 and a
Konica 50mm. They both take a 40.5 mm filter which I have a Heliopan
UV/IR for. The 50mm f1.5 Summarit and Xenon use a 41mm filter. For
those two I use a 41-> 46 step up ring and a 46mm filter.
