You're right of course about the 50mm frame lines being the best. I
also believe the pop-up 90mm frame in the M3 is better then in every
model that followed. If you have a problem focusing then the M3 is
best followed by the .85, .72, and either the .58 or the M8. I wear
glasses but can't stand to use the 1.25X magnifier. I have one but
only use it when I'm testing a lens for sharpness and contrast. And
that isn't very often. As far as the M8 focus goes, it is faulty. Yes
faulty, not a matter of human error. I have tested 12 lenses with
both a .85 MP and two M8's. In every case with both M8's the lenses
will show a back focus shift. The shift brought the focus area
outside of the DOF. The test was done with 7 50mm lenses, 1 75mm
lens, 2 90mm lenses and 2 135mm lenses. Most people blame this shift
on human error. Not true. Even if you use a 10X eyepiece magnifier on
the M8 it won't help. I needed to get 3 lenses shimmed so that
accurate focus was within the DOF area with both film and digital.
Now I'm happy.
