Gene,
the latest Fomag lists in Germany quote 800 Euros for the 1.4/80mm -
means , depending on condition, dealer prices of anywhere between 600
and 1600 Euros.

The top price will vary according to what the dealer hopes to get for
it, the lower price is an absolute minimum based on what a dealer
clearing unsold second hand stock would ask, having given the previous
owner around 350 to 400 euros for it.

In Germany, prices vary a lot depending on whether it is
a) "Kommissionsware" (sold on commission, where the original owner sets
the price - haggling on the price means the dealer will call the
previous owner to see if he'll accept an offer)
or
b) a "Gelegenheit" (something taken in part exchange, with the price set
by the dealer - you can haggle directly on this price). The advantage of
the latter is that you get a 6-month or 1-year warranty (if the dealer
says less, he's acting outside German trading regulations) this means
that the store will take it back or have it repaired for you if it turns
out to be defective.

For the former, you usually get a so-called "?bernahmegarantie" of a few
weeks - this means test it and bring it back if its not OK to get your
money back.

So-called "Demonstrationsware" or "Vorf?hrware" means it's stuff that
may have been lent out to good customers or just handled rather a lot in
the store - this would come boxed with full papers and full Leica warranty.

Hope this helps
Douglas
