Doug:

Here we go again:

Like Allstair, I've been obsessing about the 280 but in my case, I
can't remember if either APO Extender will work with the 70-180 APO.

Will they?

Some say yes, some say no.

If yes, what is the Net Focal Length at each end of the 70-180 with
the 2x? I don't think it achieves 140-360.

In my tests on the 280mm APO-Telyts (both f/2.8 and f/4) the 1.4x APO-
Extender causes a barely perceptible loss of image detail. Generally
not enough to notice in real-world circumstances. the 2x APO-Extender
will cause a bit more degradation but in most cases not enough to be a
problem (and I'm very fussy about image quality).
