Just a bit of additional information, Sony has announced a ~24MP in full
frame as a CMOS design. Same high ISO capabilities that are seen in the D3.
Most people assume it will go into the new alleged Nikon but it could fit
in a new Leica. On the other hand, Kodak is proud of their new 5mp micro
chip to go into cell phones; this would be a very large volume chip if
adopted by the phone industry.
For most of the world engineers are working overtime to come up with a
single device to perform telephony, music, video, photo, PDA, and possibly
basic computing/networking capabilities. If successful there are potential
sales in the hundreds of millions of units. Sure beats sales numbers from
Solms.
