Subject: [Leica] Was Obama Photos Now 135mm ASPH on M8

Thanks, Matthew. Yes, this was the "new" 135mm f/3.4 ASPH.

The lens performs very well on the M8; probably the sharpest and
highest contrast lens I have. I would never part with it.

There are two problems to note. First, there are no frame lines for
135mm. What I did for the Obama photos was put his neck on the top
edge of the rangefinder rectangle, so roughly twice the size of the
rangefinder area?

Second, the rangefinder cam does not always mate with the lens when I
first put it on the body. A quick back and forth of the focus ring
and I hear the cam click into place. Then all is well.

I have found no focus inaccuracies with this lens, and frequently
shoot wide open. These were at f/5.6. You can read the time on his
watch in some of the photos! I did do the cam adjustment; don't know
whether that affects the distance focus

The images in these Yosemite photos that start with "L" (other than
848 which was a TE) were all shot with the same lens:

Nice action shots in tricky light. Lots about your elections on the
news
here in UK but nice to see the pictures. Is this the 'new' 135mm lens
(f/3.4 ASPH) ? My dealer advised me not to buy it for the M8 as the
rangefinder would be inaccurate. But you have done fine.
Best wishes,

Matthew
