It is an external disk anyway amd it doesn't look that easy to dismount from its case, to the point where I feel that the risk of actually damaging it in the operation probably outweighs the chances of getting it back alive. I have most of the originals on CDs anyway - it's just going to be hugely tedious getting that many images off them. I'm off to buy another Seagate. I reckon that they are about the best, I've been using them for about twenty years one way and another - I was just seduced bya bargain offer.
