The ordeal is nearly over. I don't think the reflection is caused by the UV/IR filter. The artifact is too well defined and happens to be near the reversed and overlaid position of the true illuminated sign. Is the photo cropped at all? If I were a betting man I would say the reflection is caused by some sort of sensor bleed over, overload condition. This is a guess of course and you may want to try and duplicate the phenomena with and without a filter. While it is true that lenses over 35mm don't need to be coded, they do need the UV/IR filter. The coding will correct for vignetting and cyan creep in the more affected wide angle lenses. However it will remove the unwanted IR purple cast with all lenses including normal and telephoto. The filters are required for all lenses, especially if you are shooting in color.
