Yes, you can apply a filter to the jpegs but it does a much better 
job if you start with the Raw.  It's always better to shoot Raw.

I don't have in experience with Aperture but I can't imagine how it 
could be better than Lightroom.  I really like Lightroom.

Yes, and it has to be the newest Mac, too.
