In my comparison of prints from film in M cameras with the best Leica  
glass and prints made from M8 files with the same lenses. The M8  
files win at all speeds from 160 (the M8's lowest) through 640.

The only films that can compete are the slow to moderate speed  
transparency films - and for me those films have always been a PIA to  
print - trying every conceivable way from 4x5 inter-negatives with  
masks, etc. Cibachromes were wonderful - but I don't even know if  
they're available anymore.
