But it just ain't so. I use em all the time. Its far easier to design a lens which balances better on a camera with a variable aperture. And a lens with nicer image producing specs. So I like em. And am not fond of having Yuban coffee cans filled with rocks on the front my my compact bodies. For instance the 12-24 f4 lens I use is fixed aperture lens. So I can hold my head up higher when I use it. But I don't I don't care a bit about it. If it varied I'd say "terrific" it would probably be smaller than it is. It was probably for some reason mathematically real easy for them to have made it an f4 lens so they just went ahead with it from a marketing perspective thought it would sell to a few more pros. Though its nice to in aperture mode which I use mainly now to set in at F4 and be there and not have to think about it. Mark William Rabiner Harlem, NY rabinergroup.com
