never tried using the Noctilux in a setting where I could get away with ISO

f/1 at 1/30 or 1/15.<<<<<<

Hi Brian,
I can't give you any advice regarding the Noctilux and M8.. Yet! ;-) But
with tri-x or Tmax rated at 1600 and on occasion 3200 and always had proper
exposures.

One thing to keep in mind is all the techie stuff about "expose for the
shadows and develop for the highlights?" Don't even think about it just
shoot at whatever expoure you get, say a "Hail Mary!" Cross yer heart and
all will be well! ;-)

This is truly a case of "You can't think and shoot at the same time!" Just
shoot.

Now I understand the M8 doesn't rack up to ASA 1600,let alone 3200. But I'm
sure some fiddling in camera settings and twiddling later in the computer it
can be accomplished.

But don't think you are going to have "shot in broad daylight" when yer
working in a coal mine. However they'll look like great coal mine pictures.
