fascinating OT thread this.

Just to complete the spectrum of data, I am running FF 1.5.0.8 over XP on a 
Pentium D, 1.5.0.7 over Linux (Ubuntu 6.0.2 LTS)on an old (1,2 GHz) Pentium 
, 
NS7.2 (Mozilla) over XP (modern 586) and IE over XP (modern 586)-on a 
different 
machine - and FF on Linux gives by far the best performance somehow more 
"satisfying", although loading characteristics vary quite a lot.
