The prices of the new Leica digital gear may drop down a (very) little after
their introduction. But a M8 with a 3-Elmar is just out of reach for 99.99%
of the so called iPod generation, positive economy forecasting or not.
Having 250$ spare for an iPod or $9500k for M8/3-E isn't the same, not only
for kids, but me too, for instance.

The average M8 user will be over 35 years old, and belong to the top-10%
income class. Maybe one of them is also owner of an iPod, but talking of
"reaching the iPod generation for selling them a Leica M8" is bigmouthed
rubbish. The usual marketing blabla, all hollow words. The guy who said that
doens't know much about Leica, or iPod, or both.

The M8 will be hip and be bought for that reason, too, for shure. But not by
those belonging to the "iPod generation", but more likely by those of the
"Porsche Cayenne Turbo S generation".

>I suppose I'm just saying that that kinda money ain't that rare at
>the moment. Times are really pretty good: yes I know there are plenty
>of exceptions, but the timing to introduce a digital M is not too
>bad. Most of us are "used" to the current exchange rates as well.

>The Leica Digital will not be the first camera the kids will buy, but
>there will be a fascination with older photojournalism as they learn

>>This generation is definitely on auto focus auto everything. a
>>picture is just that what's on the screen. they even don't know
>>that a picture has to be focused and exposed correctly.
>>It's certainly possible certain youngsters will be interested in a
>>Leica M8, for instance because the other's don't have it. I
>>remember having seen a pic of Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) using a
>>Digilux-2 (with lens cap on). But she's the Hermes clientele than
>>the iPod's.
