When you see the two versions, it's clear that in the B&W one's attention is focussed on the boy, where it should be, and sort of radiates out from there to the man and then to the surrounding people; in color it's hard not to be drawn to the man's shirt and the blue door. The photo's composition and light support focus on the important, and when the distraction of color is removed, the photo is allowed to work as well as it deserves to. 2006-08-17-15:22:49 B. D.
