This was based solely on my having stood next to him in line for 5-10 minutes, and I could be wrong. That said, Southerners, by and large, have a fairly high tolerance for individul eccentricity. That's what makes it such a colorful place, and something I would like to show in my work. But that's when taken in small and managable doses. On encountering something on the scale of weirdness of an anti-gun rally, an ACLU convention, or a gay-pride parade, another social instinct would likely kick-in, that is 'don't go where you aren't welcome', and most folks would simply choose to ignore it. We would call that 'manners'. Of course there are always a-ho's who won't pass up on a chance to make themselves obnoxious, but the South has no monopoly there. I'm willing to bet even in Holland there were a few 'counter-protesters'.
