Buy the kit for $599 and use the 28-80 Nikkor in the kit at that price point. If all you are doing is low res then who cares about the lens. Better yet, pick up a cheap P&S as any of them can be made to work. I will stand by the D200, it will be with you for years, the D50 is a decent consumer camera designed to sell at a very inexpensive price point with all that entails.
