The only thing that matters is boat speed. In casual racing with family and friends as crew, particularly if it's blowing a bit and cold to boot, compromises are made, particularly if the first weather leg is short. Setting in a reef downwind to get ready for a long slog to weather and the finish is another matter. All you non-sailors now thoroughly confused? Or bored? ;-))) To get back on topic, we sometimes take pictures during races but it's frowned upon by all but the most lenient skippers.
