I've got a flatbed Epson scanner that is about 4 years old. I've avoided
using it because the software that came with it crashes incessantly and I'm
just not good at using Vuescan.

I wonder if a flatbed scanner could be used for this,
assuming it's also used for other purposes (reflective
scans of documents, for example).
