I'd like ot know how the 5D works with long lenses. Mirror clearance
obviously won't be a problem but I'm wondering how corner performance
and
manual focus is with this combination.

Doug, it works very well with the Canon 200mm f/2.8. It focuses well
and accurately and the sensor performs no differently than it does with
shorter lenses, which is to say, extremely well. I have not tried on
on longer lenses. I do have a Canon 75-300 (which I am selling) but I
don't think that would be a fair test vs. a prime, as it is not an "L"
and though it has IS, its results on a 20D were only so-so. If you're
going to use Leica glass, I would expect the 5D to perform very well.
IMHO, it is the poor man's 1DS mkII. (Not that $3300 is cheap; its the
theory of relativity 8-))
