It's also clear from the Greenland ice cores that these temperature changes can be VERY abrupt and extreme. This might well be a precursor of even more severe weather to strike the US Atlantic and Gulf coast in the future as more energy is available in the tropics for cyclonic storms. Certainly we're seeing weather trends that are defying the current computer modeling. Those of us on the West Coast know that whatever is going on in the North Pacific we don't understand it.
