A roll of, say, 1950 127 Perutz film will have decayed chemically over 55
years.  A chemist can accomodate this decay but that must be part of the
analysis.  That roll of film today will not operate as it would have
operated in that year of my birth, just as I am a slightly different item
than I was then.
