Nothing could >be easier. I don't even do that. I have the auto-clipping set to something like 0.01 or some such, and have autofocus set. I put in the carrier, hit preview, adjust the scan area if needed, then hit scan. Very simple. Very efficient. I get very, very flat, low-contrast scans this way. I adjust the curves in Photoshop to my liking, then convert to 8-bit per channel, and do anything else I want, such as applying a bit of unsharp mask. My goal in scanning is not to create a file that can be printed. It's to create a file that has as much information as my scanner can extract from the negative, so that I can then manipulate that info as I see fit.
