I don't know about the FD L 400f2.8 but I have a 300
f2.8L Canon lens which has to be used with a convertor
on my digi EOS10D. It produces better results than my
Leica 280 f2.8 to the extent that I sent the Leica
lens in for a service. It came back from Germany
fitted with a ROM chip and certified to be performing
to specification but it is clearly not superior to the
Canon. Whilst my Leica lenses in the normal range may
be better than the Canons and the latest modular
lenses may be too the 280 f2.8 I have is not - though
it is still excellent.
