[Author Prev] [Author Next] [Thread Prev] [Thread Next] [Author Index] [Topic Index] [Home] [Search]We have one car instead of two with all the associated savings, I don't pay $300/mo to park my car, I do three to five hours of cardio a week which means my heart rate is the lowest it's ever been, it's a good 20-30% faster than public transport (ESPECIALLY when it's snowing), AND my bike ride is along the lakeshore, which is lovely. Also, having interviewed many 90 and 100 year olds you would be ASTOUNDED how many of them were avid cyclists... I am hardly painfully thin but I dread to think what I would look like if I didn't cycle. For me there are really no downsides. I have nice clothing and a fast bike which makes it pleasant in almost any weather except ice. In any case most hardcore cyclists secretly enjoy foul weather, even blasting headwinds so long as they get to cycle back the other way before it swings round. I don't know if it's just me and my friends but where I work (I rent an office in a friend's building) there are four hardcore cyclists out maybe twelve or thirteen people. And if the weather is really too shitty I don't feel bad about taking a cab.
